Kashmiri is an Indo-Aryan language primarily spoken in the Kashmir Valley of India, and to a lesser extent in parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan. It is the official language of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The history of Kashmiri language dates back to around 5th century AD, when it was first written in the Sharada script, which is now extinct. Over the centuries, Kashmiri has been influenced by various languages, including Sanskrit, Persian, and Arabic. It has also been written in various scripts, including Devanagari, Perso-Arabic, and Roman.

Kashmiri has a rich literary tradition, with a number of poets and writers producing works in the language over the centuries. The most famous Kashmiri poet is Lal Ded, who lived in the 14th century and is considered a saint by many Kashmiris.
